Heavy rain but brighter later

A heavy and persistent band of rain arrived in the small hours and lasted until late morning, depositing what became a record amount of rain since we started recording last November.  By lunchtime the rain had cleared but the sky still seemed unsure and it was well into the afternoon before there was a real improvement.  But by teatime, there was blue sky and plenty of sunshine around, though it was too late to make a real difference to temperatures, which were well down.

More lovely sunshine, though change is on the way...

Another beautiful day with more near-cloudless skies and some warm September sunshine.  The wind has continued to move further round the compass, with today's prominent direction from the east or south-east, bringing warmer air in. Again staying dry, though as afternoon became evening, there were one or two signs of a change on the way with cirrostratus fibratus (denser, fibrous cirrus clouds) developing followed by thin altostratus, indicating a frontal system on the way.  Chances are this is the last dry day in a run that's lasted since Saturday morning last week.

A lovely sunny day again

The cloud cover of yesterday had moved away last evening and during the night, so today we were back to beautiful sunshine and near cloudless skies throughout.  Feeling warmer too, with winds coming from a milder direction it felt a little like the summer we haven't had!

Still cool today, but a marked contrast to yesterday as a thick layer of cloud had moved over from the east coast during the night, and stubbornly refused to budge throughout the day, only thinning and breaking up in the last hour of daylight after tea.  Temperatures were no warmer than of late, with winds still in the north or north-east.

Plenty more sunshine today, only some light cirrocumulus and small cumulus clouds frifted over from time to time.  With winds in the north and north-east all day though, temperatures were deceivingly cool, though in the sunshine it still felt quite pleasant.

A lovely day again, and a little warmer too

A clear start with light winds meant temperatures fell low again overnight, but sunshine from the start and lighter winds with higher pressure meant the mercury rose a little higher, peaking at 19.7°C.  Fair weather cumulus during the day, thickening briefly around lunchtime but generally offering good spells of sunshine throughout.  Skies clearing after tea, and as the wind died away, temperatures fell too.

Another nice day, but cool in a stronger breeze

Another nice day throughout.  Still conditions through the night allowing temperatures to fall to 4.9°C, the lowest recorded since 10 June.  But then fine weather with plenty of sunshine meant temperatures climbed, not to anything spectacular, but with a cool airflow, a high of 16.3°C wasn't too bad.  Being out for a time in the afternoon, the chill in the air was noticeable, particularly when the sun popped behind a cloud.  But we're in a settled spell of weather at the moment and after a disappointing summer, being out in the sun was still welcome.
