Overnight rain clearing to leave another nice day

A band of rain passed through overnight, the tail end of which meant a wet rush hour for commuters.  Afterwards, the cloud cleared dramatically, bathing us in sunshine in lovely blue skies.  Always a breeze around, though nothing problematic, but again the air was coming from a cool direction which held temperatures back throughout the day.  Once again feeling ok in the sunshine but a little on the cool side for August when in the shade.

More of the same really, slightly on the cool side for late August, dry all day except for a couple of light showers in the evening.  The rain was due to cloud thickening from the south as a front lying over southern England crept gradually northwards.  Plenty of sunshine during the daytime though as our relatively dry spell continued.

Slowly brightening into a nice day

A damp but calm start, a heavy dew on the grass perhaps giving an early sign that we are slipping closer to Autumn.  Fairly cloudy, a thin veil with one or two holes allowing some sunlight through. The forecast says the cloud will hang around all day, but it always looked like it might brighten up, and so it proved with some nice spells of sunshine developing by lunchtime and through the afternoon.  Pleasant in the sunshine but a nip in the air when in the shade due to the cool wind direction (again) - a regular feature of this summer.

Muggy sunshine and breezy, before another thunderstorm

A sunny start, feeling close with some wisps of cloud always obscuring the brightest blues in the sky. Warming nicely, but always an unusually strong breeze, providing the clearest indication that this was not your ordinary summer's day.  The weather held until early afternoon, when the sky turned steel grey from the south and west, and by 3pm the heavy rain hit, accompanied for a time by thunder and lightning.

The band of weather passed through leaving a cooler, very damp atmosphere behind, and slowly clearing skies.

The best of the weather today was in the afternoon, when the sun said hello for a time and temperatures responded quite quickly, climbing around 3°C in just half an hour a little after lunch.  It was never a cracker, and the cloud was never all that far away, thickening again later to give us a few more spots of rain.

A brighter day with some sunshine in the afternoon, no rain, and with lighter winds than yesterday.  A recipe for warmer temperatures then?  Hmm, marginally perhaps - the wind direction is from the north-west at the moment and even though it's August, it's certainly keeping the temperatures pegged back.
